Marktgasse Hotel

I had the chance to visit this hotel -although my son was the person who stayed over night due to issues with his flight. The service was great - the rooms were clean and as advertised. The location is fantastic - in the old quarter of town, near lots of restaurants and walking distance to the river and Lake

The location is great, but as you enter the building it feels like you’ve landed at a motel 6 in a second rate city. We paid close to 500 per night (without breakfast). Our room was spotless. The towels provided were threadbare. Again, the place was spotless. The biggest issue is the hotel room floors are all wood. The first night our neighbors arrived late and it sounded like the circus had arrived in town. When I called reception that acted like this was the 1st time anyone had ever complained. The second night was interrupted at 4am by a neighbor (probably getting ready for an early flight or train ride). For location, it’s great. For cleanliness it’s great. For a quiet night’s sleep - I guess I’m the only one who has ever complained, but I guarantee that’s not the case. Also, there is zero valet or bell hop assistance. There are steps leading to your room, so beware. In general, I say it’s clean and well located. Skip their breakfast. I’ve seen better at an airport lounge.

Great, quirky little hotel. Super clean and our room was one of the larger rooms and we had plenty of space. The hotel is in a building over 800 years old, which you wouldn’t know except for the extreme tilt in our room’s floor - definitely added character! They don’t have central air but have strong individual units with a ventilation tube that sat in an open window that did a great job cooling the room on an 85F day.

Perfect Hotel and very good located. Rooms are clean and big.l. We got an upgrade for our room and definitely cannot complain. Breakfast is good and you can find everything. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. If you are in Zürich, I can only recommend this Hotel.

Unglaublich süßes Hotel. Die Dame an der Rezeption war unglaublich freundlich, hat mir Tipps gegeben und hat mir ein gutes Gefühl gegeben. Es gibt freien Kaffee, Tee und Trinkwasser (letzteres auf jeder Etage - richtig toll!) Mein Zimmer war ein Einzelzimmer (geschäftlich unterwegs), hat vollkommen ausgereicht, gutes Bett, sehr ruhig trotz Stadtlage und alles sauber. Einziges Manko, die Decken sind sehr niedrig, Personen über 1.80 m sollten daher eine Notiz vorher erhalten. Komme gerne wieder, wenn ich das nächste Mal in Zürich bin!

We checked in here for two nights and the moment we saw our room there was instant regret. The room we have been given has no view and just very depressing. The TV is of an old model and doesn't have any casting options. This hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel. I would classify it as 2 or 3 star. We just came from an amazing 4 star in Interlaken and this one doesn't even match it one bit. The rooms are average size, there is no kettle or tea/coffee making facility, no microwave or mini bar fridge in the room. There is coffee/tea facility in the reception with no hot milk so you end up having a cold coffee! Who has this kind of a primitive setup?! And no fridge in the room?? What do you expect for families with young children who need things to be refrigerated?! It's impractical to expect them to use the main fridge in the reception area. The shower in the bath tub is a hazard and its so unsafe! This hotel is probably meant for young or solo travellers who don't need many amenities in the room. The staff are polite and the location is good as it is close to the train station. That's the only thing that I would say nice about this place. Definitely won't be recommending this hotel to anyone.
